We deliberately do not include or score the following platforms, because their core prescribing model extends into ADHD/stimulant medication, outside the SSRI/SNRI and talk-therapy scope of this vertical and an area with real regulatory history:

Cerebral: under DOJ/DEA investigation for possible Controlled Substances Act violations tied to stimulant prescribing; agreed to pay nearly $3.7 million to resolve federal claims.
Done: DEA investigation into ADHD stimulant prescribing practices; the company's founders were criminally convicted in November 2025 of illegal distribution of controlled substances.
Klarity Health: markets same-day ADHD stimulant prescriptions; BBB complaint records include reports of being charged for conditions not discussed and being matched with providers not licensed to prescribe the medication advertised.

Frequently asked questions

Does CitedRx cover ADHD or stimulant medication providers?

No, and this is intentional. We scope this vertical to talk therapy and SSRI/SNRI antidepressant medication only. Several telehealth platforms that prescribed ADHD stimulants faced DEA investigations and, in one case, criminal convictions of founders for illegal distribution of controlled substances. We exclude that category of provider entirely rather than try to score it.

Do SSRIs actually work for depression?

The evidence shows a real, if modest on average, effect that is larger for more severe depression. A 2018 Cipriani meta-analysis of 522 trials found all 21 studied antidepressants outperformed placebo. A competing analysis by Kirsch and colleagues argues the effect size is small and partly driven by publication bias favoring positive trials. Both are legitimate, peer-reviewed positions: we present both rather than picking one as the final word.

What was the STAR*D trial and why is it controversial?

STAR*D (2006) was the largest real-world antidepressant effectiveness trial, initially reporting a cumulative 67% remission rate across four treatment steps. A 2023 reanalysis found methodological issues that lowered the like-for-like remission estimate to roughly 35%. Both figures get cited in marketing; we show both with the context needed to understand the gap.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For many common conditions (depression, anxiety), meta-analyses show video-based teletherapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person therapy. Asynchronous text-only messaging without live sessions has thinner outcome data behind it.
